When John Galt founded Guelph on St. George's Day, April 23, 1827, he named it in honour of the British Royal Family. Considered one of the first planned towns in Canada, the attractive city is known for its interesting century-old limestone buildings and wide downtown avenues. Today, the city of Guelph has a population of 100,000.
