We thank customers for their patience as we safely ramp up and stabilize our operations across the country. After welcoming back our employees and restarting our machines and vehicles, our network became fully operational Wednesday afternoon and Canadians have started to receive mail.
Beginning tomorrow, December 19, we will begin accepting commercial inductions into our network.
We will resume scheduled pickups and customers will be able to drop off mail and parcels at our plants, depots and commercial deposit centres (CDCs). All new mail and parcels will be processed on a first-in, first-out basis. Customers should expect delivery delays through the remainder of 2024 and into January 2025.
What this means for customers
As we stabilize our operations, here’s an update on what customers can expect in the days ahead:
Parcels
- Beginning Thursday, December 19, parcels can be inducted at our plants, depots and CDCs.
- Customers may experience lineups and delays at our facilities for the first few days. Therefore, we may not have the ability to complete live offloads. We ask for your patience.
- Customers can also expect delays when waiting to receive empty tractor trailers. For the first few days, equipment availability will be a challenge and we will fulfill on a best-effort basis.
- Scheduled pickups will start on Thursday, December 19, but it will take several days to process items. We will make a best effort to collect all items at the time of the pickup; if that is not possible due to volumes or equipment availability, we will return to pick up the remaining items either the same day or next day. It’s important to note that there will be delays from the time is it picked up to when processing begins.
- On-demand pickups will not be available until Monday, December 23.
On-time service guarantees
- On-time service guarantees are suspended as we ramp up operations.
- Once the network is stabilized, we will notify customers when on-time service guarantees are reinstated.
Neighbourhood Mail
- Beginning Thursday, December 19, Neighbourhood Mail can be inducted at plants, depots and CDCs.
- On December 19 and for the first few days, customers may experience lineups and delays at our facilities. Therefore, we may not have the ability to complete live offloads. We ask for your patience.
- As we resume operations, the limited availability of our equipment means customers may have to find a secure alternative when inducting Neighbourhood Mail (e.g. boxes).
- Date-specific Neighbourhood Mail is not currently available. The service will resume once our operations and volumes have stabilized. We will notify customers as soon as we are able to resume this service.
- For Neighbourhood Mail mailings already in the network, we will not be able to honour date-specific delivery.
- All other Neighbourhood Mail in our system will be delivered as upon receipt – and will be delivered as quickly as possible on a first-in, first-out basis.
Return labels and call-for items
- All return labels created on or after October 15 will remain valid for up to 45 days until our operations stabilize.
- We will also restart the clock on all items currently held for customer pick-up at post offices, regardless of whether the office was open or closed during the strike.
- As of December 17, will have 15 days to pick up their parcel before it is returned to the sender.
Package redirection
- If customers leveraged package redirection during the strike, we will do our best to locate and redirect their parcel. However, our ability to fulfill package redirection requests will be limited until operations stabilize.
International mail and parcels
- We will work to process a significant accumulation of international mail and parcels currently queued up to enter the postal system.
- Customers should expect delays into 2025.
- The postal system will start accepting new international mail on Monday, December 23.
Transaction mail
- Service standards for Transaction Mail will be affected in the short term.
- Transaction Mail trapped in the network by the strike will be processed and delivered on a first-in, first-out basis.
- We will work to move new volume as quickly as possible.
- We’ll notify customers when service standards return to normal.
What customers can expect next from us
We know customers are relying on us to deliver for their business. As we ramp up operations, we will work with urgency to process and deliver the items that are already in our network as well as new items that are deposited. We will keep customers informed on how we are progressing and what it means for their business.
